No facts, no evidence…….

Dear God,

I am beefing my leadership masterclass facilitator seriously. Yes.

(Dont smile, Lord, I mean it)

So, in his class, we were dealing with the topic of decision making. The class was very interesting and noncontroversal until he asked which was a better decision-making style… instinct or logic. And all hell broke loose. Practically, all the men argued for logical or rational thinking as they called it.

They firmly believed that decisions should be based on logic and reasoning because logic allows us to analyze situations objectively, consider all the facts, and make informed choices that are more likely to lead to successful outcomes.

(I agree, but remember the word they used, Lord….more likely….not absolute, just more likely)

In their head, instinctive reasoning is emotion-based and may cloud judgment, but logic provides a clear path to the best decision.

Okay.

As much as I admit that this could be true, it is important to note that these are men talking, and they are comparatively logical thinkers. By default.

Now women are different. They have this inbuilt infinite intelligence that is instantaneous and prompt. You can call it instinct or gut feeling. It is a powerful tool that shouldn’t be underestimated. Sometimes, our subconscious mind can process information faster than our conscious mind, leading to intuitive insights that can guide us in the right direction. Instinct can cut through the noise and help us make quick decisions in high-pressure situations, and it is a life saver……because it can by pass logic or reasoning or overanalysis. And you can trust its judgment.

And guess what, Lord, because we were just two women in the class, the men sounded like they had it covered on logic. It was very annoying. They just couldn’t relate to instincts and internal prompting.

(Dad, why are you still smiling? It’s not funny, I am still upset)

Now to the worst part, instead of the facilitator to stay neutral, he seemed to argue on their behalf.

He further compounded his crime by stating that instinct is just another word for guesswork! And that relying on instinct is like playing a game of chance with your decisions. Logic, on the other hand, he said, provides a solid foundation based on facts and evidence. “It’s the ONLY reliable way to ensure consistent success in decision-making.

Nahin, Nahin.

I refused to back down….it is NOT the ONLY reliable method. No. There has to be a balance between logic and instinct. I do not agree that decisions should be without emotions….that’s deception. Decisions are based on emotions…..you gravitate to what you like….that’s emotion. But you must create a balance between what you like and what is right. So logic must be backed by the right emotions or vice versa.

(Dad, I don’t even know which one to bear, this your smiling or the facilitators’ shenanigans)

Can I show you how wrong that guy was?

So I went to shop for groceries in the supermarket and there was my favorite snack, dried plantain chips. My instinct aligned clearly on a particular brand, but as I packed some into the cart, I heard the voice of the facilitator in my head on facts and evidence before deciding. So I went ahead to check for Nafdac number, expiry date, calories, etc. Unfortunately, the one my instinct told me to take didn’t have most of that, so I checked the others and finally found one that had all the right metrics with facts and evidence and picked those.

Took some of it and finished the rest later. It was the only thing I ate. Low and behold, I couldn’t sleep that night, I was throwing up all over and stooling.

I was rushed to the hospital the next morning and was diagnosed with food poisoning, and the plantain chips were isolated as the culprit.

I couldn’t believe it. I knew it. The only reason I took those chips was facts and evidence. My instinct, my guts feeling, and the infinite intelligence said no. And instead of obeying it, I obeyed the voice of the oversabi facilitator.

(Dad, please stop laughing, I am not finding this funny)

See, I learned a very great lesson that day. Everyone is gifted in life. Please find your gifting. My style of judgment and decisions can not always align with everyone else. It is important that I understand how I operate and how my mind works and blend the decisions per time and per event. No one size will ever fit all. Not in this age and time anymore. Find your fit and stay with it.

Now Lord, I am a woman, and emotion is a part of me. Instincts work for me….and I use it very well.

If logic works for you, ….well done. If a blend works for you… super…

But I will never deny my style to conform to anyone’s. I will horn it in and make it a powerful tool for my use.

Okay….I am done. I am still going to give that facilitator my feedback. I was shocked at how dogmatic his views were, and he was teaching a leadership class? Leaders are meant to be flexible and fluid with ideas and opinions. Not taking an iroko tree stance.

(It’s okay to laugh)

Dad, honestly, I wish everyone will come to the understanding of the power of infinite intelligence in the depth of our subconscious mind. It’s a powerful ally, and it helps sort the noise. I love it, and I harness it so much. But I know that a lot of people dont get it and still doubt it. You know, sometimes, I tell my Adam not

to engage with someone or something, and he asks why?

And that’s the problem….that why….

I have no clear answers as to the why, but I have that inner knowing.

How can I explain it Lord, how can I explain what I know that I know without facts and evidence….?

How would they believe me without facts and evidence….that is what they seek… right?

Unfortunately, instincts flash results, not the process or the facts.

Hmmm.

But I believe you, Lord, yet I have no facts… no evidence. I have no facts and no evidence that I have seen you, but I have.

I have no facts and no evidence that I know you, but I do…

I have no facts and no evidence that I hear you, but I do.

So, this is Your daughter Lord, without facts and without evidence, but checking in.

I tilt more to 100% Logic than Instinct in decision making. Instinct can get a 25% chance through a learning process of failure of Logic.

Interesting write up while as a man I understand by default the thought process of logical reasoning, I definitely see the need for the balance for emotions that’s why we are humans not computers. We are where we are from experience not logic alot of logical things we presume logic we scale pass even by pass without wondering how come. Decision making without the balance of emotions for me is heartlessness.
