It shall end in Praise!

Dear God,

I didn’t initially plan to talk to tall and handsome. It was just a coincidence. Honest. Sonia was on a business call with one phone and the other was ringing. (I don’t understand why people have two phones, if you know my struggles to keep one alive and well, you will understand that two is dead-on-arrival)

(You are shaking your head? I love that twinkle in your eyes)

So, she pantomimed that I should pick the call for her and ask the person to call back. Whoever was on the line was a bit desperate because the phone had rung 5 times already. The rule of thumb is call twice and let it go. But after the 4th call, she gave me a sign to pick and moved further to the dining to continue her business conversation with the other person. She didn’t even look to know who it was; the other conversation was very intense.

I picked the phone and as soon as I identified the caller, I dropped it back. It was tall and handsome, and I didn’t want to have anything to do with that. But he won’t let off the phone, it kept ringing, and my irritation was rising. I wanted to send him a message only, but Sonia’s phone was locked, and I didn’t want to interrupt her discussion flow.

So, I picked it. Yes, I did.

“Why won’t you pick my calls, are you avoiding me?”, came the deep voice

“And I thought it was the other way round” I replied

He paused.

“Who is this?”, he asked

“Who should it be? Not everyone turns their back on good friends”, I replied (I was so spoiling for a fight)

He paused again.

“Can I talk to Sonia please?”

“Well, she is not available right now. I am sure you know she is a very busy woman; she is not the type that stands too long in unstable waters” I said with intentions.

“And what is that supposed to mean?”

“And what do you suppose it means, honey?”, I pushed

(He made a frustrated sound)

“Look sister, I don’t know what this is about, could you tell her to pick the phone please?” He said with forced calm.

“1st, I am not your sister, second, I am not your PA, and 3rd, whatever you need to tell her, you do it yourself”, I said icily

He sucked in his breathe audibly. I held my breathe. His next move is the cast move.

“Okay, I don’t know what I did to you to be on this wrong side with you, but I am sure I have never met you before……”

“The enemy of my friend is my enemy…. have you heard that before?” I cut in

(He made a chuckle sound) Dad, the bagger chuckled. (He may not be half as bad, hmmm). I smiled inwardly, softening a little. I have been trying to bait him into a fight and he won’t bite. (Dad, I like him, I decided to pull in a little)

“I don’t make enemies, I make friends”, he said gently

Hmmm. Good answer.

“Well, when you hurt someone I love, you make an unsolicited enemy” I replied

“I apologize if I did, it wasn’t intentional. I build bridges, I don’t break them, he said

Dad, I love this guy….

“May I ask which of your friends I hurt?” He asked.

(Seriously? Dad, is he joking or is he bland? But I have decided to cut him some slacks, so I stayed calm)

“Sonia is my friend and I am a dragon slayer, so if you hurt her, you will answer to me personally”, I said bravely

“Sonia? I could never hurt Sonia even if I tried……”

“I see, aah, I forgot you are a saint. A saint without a past”, I said sarcastically

He sighed

“What did I do exactly that you are so angry about?”

“Me angry? Uncle Saint, we are just mere mortals with a past, we don’t run away from it, and we don’t apologize for it……”

He sighed again deeply

“Can I at least talk to her?” He said showing his frustration slightly.

“About her past or present? The past drove you away, did the present bring you back?” I baited again

“What are you talking about? Which past drove me away?” He asked sounding frustrated now.

“You scrammed with your tail between your legs immediately you heard her story…”

“Well, the story wasn’t exactly a walk in the park….”

“Yeah, you saints can’t relate to things like that, it must have been mind-blowing. And the best reaction is Run!” I said dramatically

“I didn’t run, I travelled madam…”

“For weeks? Incommunicado? After you heard the story? Pleaseee…”

He sighed deeply again…

“Did it ever occur to you that I may have needed time to process the whole rendezvous? I am human too, remember?”

“And did it ever occur to you to let her know that you wanted to process the whole rendezvous? She is human too, remember?”

“Fine, if you could just open the gate, I would come in and explain”…. he said calmly

“Open the gate?” I was confused

“I am out here on her street, please open the gate. I have been trying to reach her to tell her that since ….”

Dad, this guy is a keeper. I laughed silently. (But should I open the gate without Sonia’s approval? What if she …. Heavens Yes, what is the worst thing that could happen? It’s now or never. And I am here……the dragon slayer!)

I dropped the phone, picked the gate remote and opened for him. I watched him drive in, pack and get to the door. He was tall and broad just like his photos. Not exactly the type I will call handsome, but he has a presence. I liked him. I will help them resolve this mess. I opened the door, and he walked in. He had a very good male aura. I watched him closely, his 1st move will either make or break him.

He turned to me, smiled and said…” Hi dragon slayer….”

And for the life of me I burst into laughter. He did it. He broke the bloody ice. I knew they will make it. Whatever was his reasons to run at first, they will come to terms with it. At that moment Sonia walked back into the living room and stopped short when she saw him. I could imagine all the emotions cascading through her brain. I picked my bag and stuff and gently walked out of the room. Space and time are all they needed now.

Thank you, Lord, I have done my part…. the rest is up to you and them now.

This is Your daughter, the dragon slayer, I am checking in my two-edged sword.
